Some things that I’ve heard as we cruise in the the 4th of July Weekend….

• “Hot” name for the opening at Winona State is Wisconsin Green Bay assistant Randall Herbst.  The Winona State alum joined Linc Darner’s staff this past spring.  He also worked with Darner at Florida Southern, and has been a head coach at The University of Mary and Waldorf JC.  He spent the past four seasons on the staff at Nebraska Omaha.  Still early in this one though…

• I can confirm that Mars Hill (NC) assistant Mark Lane has resigned and will become an assistant at Hill College (TX).  Lane came to Mars Hill in 2013 after spending five seasons as an assistant at Cape Fear CC (NC).

• I can also confirm that Baton Rouge CC assistant Dan Tharpe has been named as an assistant at Clarendon College (TX). Prior to joining the BRCC staff last season, Tharpe was an assistant at the University of Jamestown (ND), and a GA at South Dakota.

• I have heard that Justin Newton has been hired as an assistant at Lee University (TN).  Last season, he served as the GA at Columbus State (GA).  He has also been an assistant at South Georgia State, and a HS coach in SC.  He will replace Ryan Ross who became the head coach at Munford HS (TN) back in May.

• Northeast CC (MS) head coach Cord Wright has promoted Kyle Morris to associate head coach.  Morris worked at University of Pikeville (Ky.), and the University of North Alabama, before being hired by Wright prior to the 2014-15 season.
