Daily Dirt – 7/22/15

Crazy time for the DirtKing – busy week of camp, then sprinting out of there every evening to coach my 11-year old in the State Baseball Tournament.  Completely exhausting few days so far this week, but there is a TON of “dirt” to get caught up on – here’s what I’ve heard…

  • I have heard that Indiana State DBO Rex Parker has will become an assistant at NJCAA Triton College (Chicago).  Parker spent the past three seasons on the Sycamore’s staff, and was at Iowa Central before that.
  • I can confirm that Andy Schmitt has taken an assistant spot at Texas A&M Commerce.  He is a former graduate assistant at Austin Peay and was also a manager at Illinois.
  • I have heard from a great source that new Lander University (SC) head coach Steve Roberts has hired Ryan Hilburn as an assistant.  Hilburn had spent the past five years at Anderson (SC) where he was elevated to associate head coach prior to last season.  Before coming to Anderson, he worked for Jeff Burkhamer at Lander.
  • Edward Newton will be named as an assistant at Dillard University (NO).  He is the former head coach at LeMoyne-Owen (TN) where he was the SIAC Coach of the Year in 2008.
  • I have heard that NYU assistant Nelson Albino is headed to Connecticut Connecticut College where he will join Tom Satran’s staff as an assistant.  Albino had been at NYU for the past two seasons, and was an assistant at Colby College before that.  He replaces Mike McSloy who became an assistant at Vassar last month.
  • The search to replace Shay Berry at Hunter College is progressing, albeit slowly.  After a long delay, the college is still trying to figure out if the position will be full-time or part-time.  Candidates are now being contacted to gauge their interest for both possibilities.  Seems like this one is still a while from being done.
  • On the flip side, the search to replace Andy Sachs at Bethany (WVa.) is flying…It sounds like as many as five candidates will be on campus this week.  Two names that I have heard are former Central Florida assistant Tim Thomas (a West Virginia native), and Pitt-Johnstown women’s coach Mike Drahos (played at Bethany).  Sounds like this could be wrapped up quickly.
  • Some names are starting to surface surrounding the vacancy at Keene State (NH).  A few names that I’ve heard are Franklin Pierce head coach David Chadbourne, Former Dartmouth head coach Dave Faucher, and WPI assistant Ryan Cain.  I have heard another NH DIII head coach could be involved as well.  It also sounds like this will be an “interim” hiring since Keene State is also searching for an AD.
  • The search at Allegheny is just about wrapped up – I would expect to have the name on this one shortly…
