Daily Dirt – 8/17/12

A busy end of the week – here we go…

• According to Albany head coach Will Brown’s Twitter, his GA Josh Pelletier has been named as the DBO at Long Island University. Pelletier had been on Brown’s staff for the past two season, and was a player at St. Rose before that. I have also heard that he will be replaced at Albany by Simon Clement.

• Multiple sources have told me that Penn assistant (and former Hartford head coach) Dan Leibovitz is involved with a spot with the Charlotte Bobcats. He and new Bobcats head coach Mike Dunlap are close, and it is believed that he has been offered a spot in player development. He would be the second Ivy League guy to depart for the NBA this week – Columbia assistant Koby Altman has just joined the Cavs staff: http://hoopdirt.com/news/6712b1b1/columbias-altman-to-nba/…

• I have also heard that Washington assistant Raphael Chillious is involved with the vacant assistant spot at Villanova. Coach Chill has been on the Huskies staff since 2009. He has also been the head coach at South Kent prep and worked for Nike Elite Youth Basketball.

• It sounds like John Janovsky has been hired as DBO at Marshall. Over the past two seasons, he has worked in various administrative roles at Virginia Tech. He is a former manager at Pitt who also worked as an assistant at Indiana University (PA).

• I can confirm that Rock Valley College (IL) head coach Julian Springer has resigned in order to become the head coach at Kankakee CC (IL). He had spent two years at Rock Valley, winning 20 games last season. He has also been an assistant at Jackson State and Alma College. He replaces Joe Lightfoot whose contract was not renewed in June.

• Some staff moves at Belhaven (MS)…Alex Ainsworth has been hired as an assistant. He is a Mississippi native who played at Belhaven. Dan Foley will be the video coordinator. He hails from Rochester, NY and played collegiately at Roberts Wesleyan University (NY). Tensley Cowan will be the Director of Basketball Operations. He is another Belhaven alum.
