Daily Dirt – 8/22/11

Very happy that the Dow has opened up this morning – hopefully that trend continues throughout the day and the rest of the week. Here’s some "dirt" that I heard over the weekend….

I’ve heard that Middlebury assistant Arlen Galloway is in the mix for a spot on the staff at Cornell as the 3rd assistant. Galloway has been on the Middlebury staff for the past three years which included a Final Four run this past season. The position at Cornell is open because Ricky Yahn departed for Longwood at the beginning of July. The third assistant in the Ivy League is an unpaid position.

From a great source….sounds like Scott Adubato is involved with an administrative role on Isaiah Thomas’ staff at Florida International. He was most recently an assistant at Manhattan, and spent three seasons at Seton Hall before that. He also has a ton of NBA experience as an assistant and scout for a bunch of teams. He is the son of Richie Adubato who was the head coach of the Pistons (Isaiah Thomas connection), Mavs, Magic, and the WNBA’s Liberty.

I blogged last week that I heard Keystone College head coach Jason Leone was the front-runner for the SUNY-Oswego job. Looks like I may be right….there has been no official announcement, but Keystone has advertised their open position (http://hoopdirt.com/job/7f6ef482/head-coach-keystone-college…).

Former Alabama graduate assistant Willie Watson has accepted the assistant position at Marion Military College (AL). He had spent six seasons in various roles in the Crimson Tide program.

I can confirm that Howard College (TX) has filled their vacant assistant job. Head coach Mark Adams has hired former McClintock HS (AZ) boys basketball coach Jase Coburn. In four seasons at McClintock, Coburn compiled a 74-39 record.

Brian Miller is involved with the assistant position at Miami-Dade CC and may be the leader here. He was a student assistant at Jacksonville State for the past two seasons, and also worked with the Birmingham Challenge AAU program.
