Just got back from a week away – catching up on a few things…

According to multiple reports, Joe Dooley will re-join Bill Self at Kansas. Dooley spent 2003-13 as an assistant to Self at KU before becoming the head coach at Florida Gulf Coast (2013-18) and then East Carolina (2018-22). It sounds like he will be the recruiting coordinator for the Jayhawks. More on this when it becomes official.

I can confirm that Marcus Sikes has been hired as an assistant on Erik Martin’s new staff at South Carolina State. Sikes, who played at Cincinnati (where Martin played), has been an assistant at Trinity Valley CC since 2015. An official announcement is expected shortly.

Daniel Marks has been hired as the Chief Program Strategist at Howard. Marks had been with the Milwaukee Bucks since 2013 in various roles, most recently serving as the Manager of Prospect Information. He is also the founder of Scouting and Scavenging – an organization in which NBA, GLeague, and NCAA players and staff collect unused hotel toiletries from their travels for donations to homeless shelters at the end of their respective seasons.

I have heard that Southern Miss will promote Isaiah Carson to assistant coach and add Landon Lewis as a graduate assistant. Carson spent last season as the special assistant to the head coach after serving as a GA in 2020-21. Lewis was an assistant at Pearl River CC (MS) last year, and had previously been a student manager at Southern Miss.

For those of you out there recruiting the New England preps…new Northfield Mt Hermon head coach Mike Shelton has as added David Hastings as the associate head coach, and Jacquil Taylor as an assistant coach. Hastings had spent the past six seasons on the staff at D3 Keene State (NH), and was the head coach at Pioneer Valley Regional High School for 15-seasons. Taylor played at Purdue, finished his college career as a graduate transfer at Hofstra in 2018-19, and had most recently been playing overseas.

I have heard that Leo Balayon is no longer the head basketball coach at NCCAA Bethesda University (CA). Last season, BU went 6-12, but did upset D1 Cal State Northridge 82-80 in late December. Balayon had been at Bethesda for the past seven seasons.

A couple of JUCO assistants on the move…

Parker Lamarre has been hired as an assistant at Odessa College (TX). He has most recently been an assistant at Arizona Western, and was a graduate manager at George Mason before that.

Carlos Taylor has joined the staff at Casper College (WY). He was an assistant at Seward County (KS) last season.
