On the go today – here’s the "dirt"…
• Maine assistant Ed Kohtala has been hired as the boys basketball coach at Bangor (ME) HS. He had been on the Maine staff for the past three seasons, and was an assistant at UMKC before that. I have heard that current Maine assistant Nate Philippe will be elevated to the #2 assistant spot. I have also heard that the short list for the #3 spot includes all guys with Maine basketball ties, including a few former players.
• I can confirm that former Schreiner University (TX) head coach Drew Miller has landed as an assistant at St. Mary’s (MD) where he will also serve as the men’s and women’s tennis coach. Miller spent 5 seasons as the head coach at Schreiner (2007-2012) and was also the head coach at Lynchburg for the 2002-03 season.
• I have heard that Grant McMillan has been named as an assistant at Howard College (TX). He had worked in operations at TCU for the past few seasons. He replaces Justin Einerson who became an assistant at Grand View (IA) back in May.
• Brad Schmit has joined the men’s basketball staff at Montana State University-Billings. Schmit spent the past six seasons as assistant at Morningside College (IA). Schmit is the all-time leading scorer in Morningside College history.
• It sounds like Matt Collins will be joining the staff at Union County College (NJ). Collins played for current UCC head coach Joan Sanchez at Concordia College (NY).
