A few things to kick off the week…
Following up on my TWEET from Saturday…D2 Texas Permian Basin has found their new head coach. Multiple sources have told me that it is a current D2 head coach from a different conference. The new coach will replace Josh Newman who departed for a D1 assistant job on the West Coast. More on this one shortly.
Patrick Nee, who spent last season on the staff at UTRGV, has landed as an assistant at Allen CC (KS). Before being hired at UTRGV, Nee was the head coach at Garden City CC (KS). He has also served as the head coach at Independence CC (2009-13), and Highland CC (2006-09). The JUCO veteran has had assistant coaching stops at Seward CC, Independence CC, and Central Florida CC.
I have heard that Wily Wilmot will be headed to D2 Alabama Huntsville as an assistant. He spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Florida State, and was a manager at Auburn before that.
Another former Florida State GA on the move…I have heard that Sam Newman will become an assistant at D2 Mississippi College. He had also spent the last two seasons as a grad assistant at FSU.
Corbin Landers has joined the staff at D2 Newberry College (SC). Landers was a HS assistant in SC for the last few years, and was also a manager on the University of South Carolina’s 2016-17 Final Four team.
Terrell Eskridge has been named as an assistant coach at Lakeland CC (OH). Eskridge had most recently been the head coach at Attica HS (KS), and had coached at a basketball academy in China before that.
Lawrence Rowley has been hired as the graduate assistant D3 The College of New Jersey. The Michigan native recently wrapped up his playing career at D3 Emory College, where he left as #2 on the school’s all-time FG% chart (.560).
Pratt CC assistant Darin Ford has departed and has been named as the new head boys basketball coach at Mosley HS (FL). Prior to his time at Pratt, Ford was a GA at Akron, and has also been an assistant at Indian River State College (FL). He is the son of current Stony Brook head coach Geno Ford.
