Daily Dirt – 9/2/14

It’s great to have all of our guys back on campus. We took four transfers – just got older in a hurry! Here are some things that I’ve heard while making sure the new guys fit in…

• I can confirm that former Fresno Pacific head coach Chris Wright has been named an assistant at Arkansas Tech. Wright had spent the last four seasons as the head coach at FPU (67-53) – he also served as an assistant there for four seasons before that. Wright joins former long-time Incarnate Word assistant Prince Johnson on the staff of first-year head coach Chad Kline.

• I have heard from two separate sources that Mansfield University (PA) assistant Will Cabrera has resigned and has become the head coach at Impact Prep (PA). Cabrera had been at Mansfield for three seasons, and was also an assistant at Messiah College (PA) for three seasons.

• Concordia University-St. Paul has promoted Andrew Kuderer from graduate assistant to second assistant. Kuderer is a former player at Concordia and spent the past two seasons as the GA there. Roman Gentry will replace Kuderer as the GA. Gentry played at UW-Milwaukee before transferring to play for Concordia Head Coach Joey James and the University of South Dakota. Gentry spent last season at Sioux City East High school (Iowa) as an assistant.

• A couple of follow-ups from my NYC JC Dirt from Sunday (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/8bc32865/nyc-jc-dirt/…)…I mentioned that ASA Brooklyn head coach Ken Wilcox had departed. He definitely has, but will not become the head coach at ASA Miami – he will serve as the AD for both campuses, but not coach. Devonne Martinez will take over for him in Brooklyn, and Jean Dubuisson will become the head coach in Miami. Coach Doobie is the co-founder of RMF Magazine, and is very well connected in South Florida prep circles.

• I also mentioned the candidates for the Hostos CC job on Sunday. I have now heard from multiple sources that the job has been offered to Hunter College assistant Eddie Lau. It sounds like the official announcement could be made tomorrow or Thursday.
