Daily Dirt – 9/6/11

Fall is here! It’s great to have all of our guys back on campus. We are getting ready for the season, but the dirt never stops! Here’s what I heard over the weekend….

Sounds like Bryant College assistant Kevin Kurbec is headed back to Providence College. Kurbec worked at PC from 1998-2008 in various administrative roles (manager, GA, DBO). He has been on the staff at Bryant for the past three seasons. I’m not sure if he will become the DBO or the video coordinator at PC. As I’ve mentioned before, former Purdue and Michigan assistant Mike Jackson is also believed to have been hired in an administrative role. I’ve heard that an official announcement is expected later this week.

I can confirm that Zack Whiting has been hired as an assistant at SUNY-Cortland. Whiting was DII 2nd team All-American at Chaminade University (HI). He led the nation in 2006-07 with 10.7 assists per game. After graduation he went on to play professionally for three seasons.

Some NYC chatter….John Jay College and head coach DeVernie Winston have parted ways. Winston went 10-41 in his two seasons at the helm. According to my source, he has been replaced by former NYC Tech head coach Otis Fenn. Apparently NYC Tech is shutting down its athletic program, so Fenn is going to make the jump to John Jay. In 6 seasons at City Tech, Fenn compiled a 42-112 record.
