Daily Dirt from Houston

Tough morning here in Houston…..I’m trying to recover from a Bud Light induced coma. A few things I’ve heard while banging around the Hilton lobby….

There are 8 finalists at Lamar (this from a source VERY close to the situation). They are: former Texas Tech coach Pat Knight, Lamar assistant Tic Price, Lamar State College-Port Arthur coach Matt Cross, University of Houston associate head coach Alvin Brooks, Jones County JC coach Don Skelton, Memphis assistant Glynn Cyprien, Central Oklahoma head coach Terry Evans and Oral Roberts assistant Chris Crutchfield.

Some staff changes at High Point. Kevin Easley is no longer on staff and it looks like Brian Reese is headed to Monmouth. Reese is a UNC alum – so is new Monmouth head coach King Rice.

TCU assistants Eric Haut and Armon Gates have both been mentioned as possibilities to join Geno Ford’s staff at Bradley. Haut was an assistant with Ford at Kent State, and Gates played for Ford there.

New Louisiana Tech coach Michael White is considering Greg Heiar from Southern Mississippi and former Duke player Chris Carrawell for spots on his staff. Heiar was the head coach at Chipola JC before joining the Southern Miss staff. Carrawell is in an administrative position at Duke (where White’s father is the AD).

I heard some scuttlebutt involving the vacant Miami-Dade job. Monroe College assistant Brock Erickson is involved here and may be the leader. Others involved are Odell Witherspoon assistant coach Gulf Coast Community College, Jay Cyriac assistant coach Seward County CC, and Mike Burris Olney Central College Head Coach.

Not sure why Oklahoma is having such a tough time hiring a coach. The hot name I heard a few times last night was former NBA head coach and Oklahoma alum Terry Stotts. Not sure where this one is headed.
