Round 2 of the Daily Dirt…
• Two new names have surfaced at Tulsa with in the past 24 hours – Texas Tech head coach Tubby Smith and New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies. Smith was the head coach at Tulsa from 1991-95 before going on to Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, and eventually TTU. Menzies has been the head coach at NMSU since 2007, and is a former assistant at Louisville, USC, and UNLV.
• It’s very early in the search at Maine, but a name that has surfaced is UConn associate head coach Glen Miller. Before re-joining the UConn staff in 2010 (he also worked there from 1986-93), he was the head coach at Penn, Brown, and Connecticut College. He has 233 wins in 17 years as a head coach.
• I mentioned last week that I had heard West Alabama head coach Mark Downey was involved with an assistant spot at Bowling Green. I can now confirm that he has accept the job on Chris Jans staff. Downey just wrapped up his first season at UWA and he was the head coach at Charleston (WVa.) before that. The official announcement is expected shortly.
• Two different sources have told me that Winona State associate head coach Tom Brown is firmly in the mix at West Texas A&M. He has been on the WSU staff for the past 16 seasons, and was a part of the 2006 DII National Championship squad.
