Daily Dirt II – 4/19/12

Busy day here at HD Headquarters – here’s some more "dirt"…..

I can confirm that Jake Headrick is out as the head coach at Chipola – he will be joining Benny Seltzer’s new staff at Samford. Headrick will return home to his native Alabama after spending the past three years at the helm at Chipola (67-22). It sounds like his replacement will be current assistant Patrick Blake. His formal introduction should take place on Monday. Blake has been an assistant under Headrick for the past two years and was a staffer at Ole Miss before that.

Speaking of Seltzer….it sounds like Towson assistant Kenny Johnson is in the mix to replace him on Tom Crean’s staff at Indiana. This past season was his first at Towson. Before that, he had spent years coaching Nike Team Takeover AAU (MD).

Delaware video coordinator Steve Struble’s name has been mentioned as a possibility to fill an ops role on Pat Kelsey’s new staff at Winthrop. Struble was a GA at Xavier when Kelsey was an assistant there. He has also worked as an assistant at St. Mary’s College (MD).

I’ve heard that if Winston-Salem State head coach Bobby Collins is involved at Grambling. Now that it appears that he won’t get the NC A&T gig (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/a0fb943/daily-dirt-4-19-12/…), he may have shifted his focus to Grambling. Collins has some type of connection with new Grambling AD Chico Caldwell.

Frankie Smith, who resigned at Saginaw Valley State earlier this week, could be in line for a HS job. According to a source, Smith is involved with the Mingo Central HS (WV) job. Smith had success at Tug Valley HS (WV) in the 1990’s before moving on to the college level. He is a West Virginia native – in his resignation statement at SVSU, he said he plans to return to West Virginia, so I guess this makes sense.
