DAILY DIRT II – 4/4/24

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

A quick 2nd round of the DAILY DIRT….

There are multiple reports of Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman to USC being a done deal. Although the Razorbacks were down this season (16-17 overall), Musselman put together 111-59 (.653) record in his five seasons there. He also went 110-34 (.764) in his four years at Nevada, and has been the head coach of the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. Musselman energized the Arkansas fan base – will be interesting to see how his act plays in the pro sports town of LA. More on this once it becomes official.

I have heard that Joey Brooks will join Austin Claunch’s new staff at UTSA. Brooks spent last season as an assistant at Coastal Carolina, and was a graduate assistant at Purdue before that. The Houston native played for Mike Brey at Notre Dame (2013 grad).

According to a Field of 68 report, Mark Byington will bring JMU assistants Xavier Joyner, Jon Cremins, and Matt Bucklin with him to Vandy. He will also add Rick Ray (Colorado assistant – former Miss St. and SEMO head coach) and Tom Ostrom (former Drake, Indiana, Arkansas, Florida and South Alabama assistant).

Earlier today in the DAILY DIRT, I mentioned that search had wrapped at D3 Wisconsin Eau Claire, and that a 2:30 (CDT) presser had been scheduled. All signs are now pointing to Wisconsin Green Bay assistant Zach Makvik being the choice here. Last season was Malvik’s first at UWGB after a nine-year stint at his alma mater Winona State. More on this one after the announcement.

D2 Mercyhurst is movin’ on up….
