Daily Dirt II – 5/2/12

First, some updates from earlier items…

• I mentioned earlier that Austin Peay assistant Scott Combs had been offered the Martin Methodist job – I was right, and he has accepted it. Here is the official press release: http://www.goredhawks.com/article/1888.php…

• I also talked about the vacancy at Immaculata (PA). I have now learned that head coach Jamie Chadwin resigned in order to accept the job as the head coach at Chestnut Hill Academy (PA). He will now be competing against his father Steve, who is the head coach at Abington Friends (PA).

• One source tells me that Happy Osborne has accepted the Montgomery County HS (KY) job, but is still in consideration for the Morehead State gig. It sounds like he and the AD (who are good friends) have an understanding he would still pursue DI HC opportunities.

Some new stuff….

• Now that Paul Silas has resigned in Charlotte, more than one person has told me that UNC-Wilmington head coach Buzz Peterson will listen if old pal Michael Jordan comes knocking. Peterson said last month that he is at UNCW for the long haul, but the lure of the NBA could be interesting….

• Some names mentioned for spots on James Jones staff at Virginia Tech….Former Duquesne head coach Ron Everhart (a Virginia Tech Alum), Current VT WBB coach Dennis Wolff (was the MBB coach at Boston U for 15 seasons), former College of Charleston assistant Mark Byington, and former VT standout and NBA player Dell Curry.

• Apparently Albany head coach Will Brown still has not signed his contract extension. In February, we said that we heard that he had agreed to an extension. Brown’s old deal reportedly expired on 4/30 -still waiting for the official word that he has inked the deal.

• Patrick Smith will become the next head coach at Moberly area CC. It sounds like the hiring just needs to be approved by the MACC board of trustees. Smith previously served as the head coach at Moberly from 2001-04. He has since been at Bemidji State and Trinity Valley (TX).

• Jack Dorn, an assistant at Missouri Western is involved with an assistant spot at St. Edward’s University (TX). Dorn is a St. Edward’s alum (2009) who has been at Missouri Western for the past three seasons.
