Following-up on last week’s DAILY DIRT: Prep Edition – a couple more coaches have made the move to the prep / HS level…
D2 West Florida assistant coach Brian Benator is headed to Heathwood Hall (SC) where he will become the new head boy’s basketball coach. Benator had been on the UWF staff for the past eight seasons, and was an assistant at Young Harris College before that. More on this move HERE.
Former Tennessee Martin assistant DeAndre Walker has been named as the head boy’s basketball coach at The Bolles School (FL). Walker was on the UTM staff from 2014-21 and also spent time as the head coach at Columbus State CC. He was most recently serving as the head coach at his alma mater Firestone High School in Akron. With Tom Messinger headed to NJIT as an assistant, Ben Veshi has been named as the Head Coach of the Hargrave Military Academy (VA) Postgraduate Basketball team. Veshi served as the Associate Head Postgraduate Basketball Coach during the 2022-2023 season after a two year coaching hiatus as he transitioned into a role within Hargrave’s Senior Administration, and spent time as an Assistant Postgraduate Basketball Coach on the staffs of Lee Martin (2017-2020), current Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Ohio University, and A.W. Hamilton (2016-2017), who is now the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Eastern Kentucky University. More on Veshi from Hargrave HERE.
St. Thomas More (CT) has named Cane Broome as their Developmental Team (Power 5) Head Coach. Broome is an STM alum who played at both Sacred Heart and Cincinnati. He has most recently served as an assistant coach with the program.
Former Wofford head coach Jay McAuley has been named as the new head coach at Lassiter HS (Marietta, Georgia). McAuley resigned at Wofford this past December after 3+ seasons on the job (58-42 – .580). The former Georgia Bulldog has also been an assistant at Furman, Gardner-Webb, and Wofford.
Pat Amico, who has spent the past four seasons as an assistant at D2 Westminster College (UT), has been named as the new head coach at St. George, Utah (St. George, UT). Prior to Westminster, Amico was the video coordinator and special assistant to the head coach at Utah Valley.
I mentioned this in the DIRT earlier this week, but adding it here as well. College of Southern Nevada head coach Russ Beck is on the move, and has been hired as the new head coach at Box Elder High School (Brigham City, Utah). More on that move HERE.
