Today’s Daily News & Notes from around the college basketball coaching world…


Texas head coach Shaka Smart announced via Twitter that he has tested positive for COIVD-19. According to his statement, he is isolating away from his team and family, and working remotely. More HERE.


Louisiana head coach Bob Marlin has also tested positive for COVID-19. According to Crescent City Sports, “on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 24 while experiencing some mild symptoms, Marlin tested positive during routine antigen testing. A subsequent PCR test administered Sunday afternoon yielded a positive result on the morning of Monday, Jan. 25.” More HERE.


SMU head coach Tim Jankovich, who had negative COVID-19 testing but a low-grade fever on Friday, has now officially tested positive. Assistant coach Jay Duncan and player development coach Nemanja Jovanovic were deemed close contacts of Jankovich, and will not be traveling with the team this week. More HERE.


Penn State AD Sandy Barbour gave an update today on her plan for hiring a new head coach. “In terms of vetting candidates and developing our list and kind of getting ahead of the game, we’ve been doing that,” Barbour said on video call with the media Tuesday afternoon. “So the plan would be to name a head coach immediately following the conclusion of our Penn State men’s basketball season.” She also said that she will make a decision on interim head coach Jim Ferry’s candidacy after the season. Oakland head coach Greg Kampe tweeted his support for Michigan high schools sports to resume. He posted a long message and prefaced it with this, “Michigan Basketball Coaches asked me to write a letter of support. I did, not for them, but for the Student-Athletes and because it is what I believe.” Read the full tweet HERE.
