Daily Dirt – 6/3/16

Some things that I’ve heard…

  • I have heard that Long Beach State head coach Dan Monson will hire Senque Carey as an assistant coach. Last season was Carey’s first as an assistant at Florida Gulf Coast.  He has also spent time at Hawai’i, Fresno State, Portland State and his alma mater, New Mexico. The official announcement is expected shortly.
  • Word on the street is that Louisiana Lafayette Director of Player Development Josten Crow will take one of the vacant assistant spots at Sam Houston State. He is a Houston native and SHSU alum (2011). He has also served as a GA at Louisiana Lafayette, and played professionally over seas for three years.
  • It sounds like Ball State will hire Walter Offutt as their Director of Basketball Operations. Offutt spent the last two seasons at the University of Illinois as a GA under John Groce. As a player, he helped lead Ohio to a 2012 Sweet Sixteen and MAC Championship.
  • Another DBO on the move…I have heard that Brown University DBO Ted Rawlings will depart for a similar position at George Mason. Rawlings had been on the Brown staff for the past two years, and also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
  • Interesting stuff at the small college level as two schools announce that they are closing. NCAA DII Dowling College (NY) and NAIA St. Catherine College (KY) are both shutting down due to financial reasons. I have not heard anything on where the staff at Dowling will wind up, but I have heard that St. Catherine head coach Joe Krupinski has already found a landing spot at another school in Kentucky.
  • I have heard that there have been some changes on the staff’s at McNeese State and North Texas. More on this soon…
