After one season, Dana Barros has elected to not return as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Newbury College for the 2017-2018 campaign. The Nighthawks registered a 3-21 overall record and a 3-12 New England Collegiate Conference mark a season ago.
Barros cited his time-demanding commitments including the Fall 2017 opening of the new Dana Barros Basketball Club in Stoughton, Massachusetts, the management of his in-house DB Gladiators AAU program and appearances for the Boston Celtics as the main reasons for stepping aside.
“I would like to thank Dana for his time and energy that he put into the Newbury Men’s Basketball program,” said Jonathan Harper, Newbury Director of Athletics. “Dana is a high-profile figure in the community and managed to balance all of his responsibilities with coaching at Newbury. I wish Dana the best of luck and will remain a friend of the program.”
The Nighthawks return third team All-Conference performer Jeduan Langston (Roxbury, Mass.). The senior guard completed the 2016-2017 season as the third leading scorer in the NECC (19 points per game) and enters the 2017-2018 campaign 36 points shy of 1,000 for his career. Senior guard Daivon Edwards (Roxbury, Mass.) returns to build on his career best 15.6 points per game from a season ago.
A national search is currently underway for Barros’ replacement.
