On Wednesday, September 16, Davidson head coach Bob McKillop was inducted into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame.

Born in Queens, N.Y., McKillop grew up on Long Island and played for Chaminade High School in Mineola.

After graduating from Hofstra in 1972, he accepted a job teaching history and coaching basketball at Holy Trinity High School where he posted a record of 86-25.

Following a year as an assistant coach on Eddie Biedenbach’s staff at Davidson College, McKillop returned to New York as the head coach at Long Island Lutheran. From 1979-89, McKillop compiled a record of 182-51, while winning five New York State Championships.

In 1989, McKillop was hired as the head coach at Davidson, where he is entering his 27th season at the helm.

The Wildcats’ 2015 NCAA Tournament appearance marked their eighth under McKillop and the 14th time in his tenure he has led Davidson to a postseason berth — the NCAA Tournament in 1998, 2002, 2006-08, 2012, 2013, 2015 and the NIT in 1994, 1996, 2005, 2009 and 2014.

McKillop-coached teams have now reached the 20-win plateau 13 times, and six have won 25 or more games.

The 10-time Conference Coach of the Year has won more games in Davidson and league history than any other coach thanks to an all-time mark of 496-300.
