De La Torre elevated to Assistant Basketball Coach at Portland State

Portland State Basketball Coach has announced the elevation of Director of Operations Alberto De La Torre to Assistant Coach for the Vikings.

De La Torre has been with the Vikings basketball program since 2018 when, as a student at PSU, he began working as a team manager, then was a graduate assistant. In 2021, De La Torre was named the Vikings’ Director of Basketball Operations by Coburn. As a result, he has been with the program longer than anyone but Coburn.

“Berto is extremely valuable to the Portland State Men’s Basketball Program,” said Coburn. “Berto is really respected within our athletic department. He works as hard as anyone I have seen and does a tremendous job in always being there for our student-athletes and coaching staff.”

“He has worked his way up from being a manager, graduate assistant, director of basketball operations and now to assistant coach. Berto has earned this opportunity to take the next step in his career. I’m really excited for him and his opportunity. We are very thankful to have him at Portland State.”

A native of Portland and David Douglas High School, De La Torre earned his degree from Portland State in 2020. He was a double major, getting degrees in Business Management Leadership and Human Resources.
