According to multiple reports, including one from Delaware Online, Delaware County Community College (PA) head men’s basketball coach Larry Yarbray, Sr, died Saturday morning in a bicycle accident.
Yarbray was a member of Chester Cycling club, and was riding in the 36th Annual Amish Country Bike Tour. According to the report, Police said “Yarbray was riding next to the solid yellow line behind other bicyclists. The bicyclist in front of him began slowing and the front wheel of his bike struck the rear wheel of the rider in front of him causing Yarbray to lose control of his bicycle. He swerved sharply to his left and entered the southbound lane.He was struck by a 2012 gray GMC Sierra traveling southbound on Apple Grove School Road towards Allabands Mill Road.”
Yarbray had been the head coach at DCCC for the past five seasons. Prior to Delaware County, Yarbray spent nine seasons as head coach of the Boys Basketball program at Chester High School. During his tenure, Coach Yarbray amassed 214 wins including seven 20-win seasons. Under Yarbray’s leadership, the Clippers won five Del Val championships, four Pennsylvania District 1 championships, two Pennsylvania AAAA State championships.
The veteran educator also served as the Dean of Students at Chester Community Charter School.
