Detroit Adds Riebau as Graduate Assistant

The University of Detroit Mercy men’s basketball coaching staff is now all set as Kal Riebau has joined the program as a graduate assistant coach.

“I am happy to have Kal come and join us here at Detroit,” said head coach Ray McCallum. “He is coming from a great program in Marquette and all they talked about was how hard of a worker he is. He has a lot of great experiences, and he will be an asset to this program.”

Riebau is no stranger to the hardwood as he spent the last year working for Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, Nevada. He started working for the academy as a recruiting coordinator and player development coach and finished up his tenure as the Director of Basketball Operations.

Prior to that, he was the head student manager for the Marquette men’s basketball program under then head coach Buzz Williams. He assisted in all facets of the Golden Eagles program as his alma mater made two-straight Sweet 16 appearances as well as reaching the Elite Eight in 2013.

“I am extremely excited to be back in the college basketball world as a member of the University of Detroit Mercy men’s basketball program,” said Riebau. ” I can’t thank coach McCallum and his staff enough for this unbelievable opportunity and I am looking forward to helping the program in any way that I can.”

He has also been a member of the support staff for USA Basketball at their U-17 men’s developmental team training camp, the Nike Hoop Summit and the women’s senior national team mini-camp.

A native of Appleton, Wisconsin, he played baseball until his senior year of high school when he made the boy’s basketball team. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Marquette in 2014, and is currently pursuing his master’s in Education, Administration and Leadership from UDM.
