Dickinson State Head Men’s Basketball Justin Wetzel has accepted a coaching position with an unnamed organization.  The team Wetzel will be working for will be announcing specifics at a later date.

“I’m proud of the hard work we were able to accomplish in bringing a long overdue championship back to DSU, and the program is in great shape going forward.  I want to thank everyone here at Dickinson State for the last three years; the fellow coaches here are truly wonderful people.” stated Coach Wetzel

Coach Wetzel made remarkable strides at Dickinson State. Within three years after Wetzel’s arrival, the Hawks became a championship program, highlighted by this past season’s historic run.  The 2016/17 season saw the Blue Hawks win their first regular season conference championship since 2001, in addition their 22 wins marked only the 8th 20 win season in 93-years of Blue Hawk basketball.

Wetzel leaves DSU as the third coach in the program’s history to have an overall winning record.  In addition, Wetzel was only the second coach in DSU history to have 11 or more wins in his first three seasons.

Athletic Director Pete Stanton stated, “We want to thank Justin for his commitment to Dickinson State basketball. He was very dedicated and had a great rapport with his players. The 2017 men’s basketball conference championship was very memorable due to Justin’s leadership. We appreciate all he did for Dickinson State and wish him and his wife Jordan all the best in their future.”
