DII DIRT: Fred Thompson Not Retained at Millersville

After 18 seasons as the head coach at Millersville University (PA), Fred Thompson has been informed that his contract will not be renewed.  An official announcement is expected with in the next day or so.

Thompson compiled a 272-233 record during his career at MU.  He ranks third in the program’s history for career wins, and on Jan. 23, 2010, he became just the third coach in school history–and the second fastest–to 200 victories. Thompson is also one of just five head coaches in Millersville’s 114-season history to reach the 100-win milestone.

Thompson’s teams have made four appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament, won three PSAC Eastern Division titles and captured two PSAC Tournament championships. He has coached eight teams to at least 16 wins and posted four 20-win seasons.

This is the second PSAC job to open so far this season.  California (PA) head coach Bill Brown announced his retirement earlier this month.

More on this story when it becomes official.
