After retiring with more than 400 wins as a collegiate head coach, hall of fame basketball coach Doug Tolin will join his son Kyle Tolin’s staff at the University of Arkansas at Monticello starting in the 2015-16 season.

Doug Tolin put together a storied career as a head coach at Oklahoma Baptist University from 2000-2015. He retired at the end of this past season as the school’s most winningest coach with a 402-120 overall record, 14 consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament, the 2010 NAIA National Championship, two NAIA National Tournament runner-up finishes, one final four finish and five elite eight finishes.

“I’m looking forward to helping the basketball program at UAM in any way I can,” said Doug Tolin. “We haven’t discussed specific duties, but it will be a much different role than what I’m used to. I’m excited to be a part of the team, and anything I can do to help the chances of having a successful program is my goal.”

Doug Tolin led the Bison to six Sooner Athletic Conference regular season championships and three SAC tournament titles. He is a four-time conference coach of the year, the 2010 NAIA National Coach of the Year and a member of five different halls of fame – NAIA (2015), Oklahoma Baptist University (2011), East Central University (2008), Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association (2008) and Norman High School (2003).

During his tenure in Shawnee, Doug Tolin recruited and coached three NAIA national players of the year, 13 NAIA All-America honorees and seven conference players of the year.

Prior to taking over at OBU, he won 335 games throughout 22 years as a head coach at four different high schools in Oklahoma, including leading Norman High School to the 1999 state championship.

Kyle Tolin, entering his second season as the head men’s basketball coach at UAM, played for and coached with Doug Tolin at Oklahoma Baptist for 14 years. Kyle was an assistant coach at OBU for the 10 years prior to taking over UAM.

“I’m thrilled and excited to have my dad on staff with us,” said Kyle Tolin. “Our program just became better. He has done everything that we have envisioned for our program here at UAM. It isn’t every day you get a chance to learn from someone of his caliber, and I am just blessed that he is my dad and willing to help. This adds excitement to our upcoming season, and we are looking forward to the future of the program.”
