Heading into his first season at Drew, Ranger Men’s Basketball Head Coach Michael McSloy has added a pair of assistant coaches to his staff.
Dylan Musial C’22 and Oliver Ortman will join McSloy on the bench this season along with returning Assistant Coach Scott Gibbs.
Musial returns to his alma mater after helping the Rangers to a tremendous five-year run from 2017-22. During that time, the Blue and Green put together an 85-36 record while making five consecutive Landmark Conference playoff appearances, including a spot in the final in three of the last four seasons. Drew captured its first Landmark Conference title in team history in 2020-21 and set a program record for victories when it finished 23-7 in 2018-19.
Despite battling numerous injuries, Musial played in 36 games at guard and served as a team co-captain during his time at the Forest. A VertiMax certified trainer, he graduated this past spring with a bachelor’s degree in business and a minor in media and communications.
Ortman comes to the Forest from cross-town rival FDU-Florham, where he enjoyed an outstanding career as a guard before graduating this past spring. A three-year captain and three-year team MVP, he finished as the program’s 14th all-time leading scorer with 1,181 points. He also established school records for most 3-pointers in a season (76) and a career (201). In addition, Ortman was a Second-Team All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) selection in 2021-22.
While at FDU, Ortman also served as a student ambassador for the Team IMPACT program, mentoring a child with a chronic physical condition. In addition, he has served as a coach and camp counselor at the New Jersey Basketball Academy since 2016.
Ortman earned a spot on the Dean’s List five times and was a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree. He earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in sports administration from FDU.
