Dumont takes over as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at North Country CC

Jerrad Dumont will take over as the new Men’s Basketball Coach at North Country Community College starting in the 2022-2023 season. After thirteen years as the Head Women’s Coach, two Region III Titles, and three consecutive NJCAA National Championship Tournaments, Coach Dumont will look to bring the same success to the men’s side.  “I am very excited for this new venture of leading a program that i was once a part of,” Dumont stated.

Coach Dumont returned to his alma mater in 2008 with intensions of restarting the women’s basketball program. In 2008-2009, Dumont and the Saints finished their first full season since 1993.   In his thirteen seasons at North Country, Dumont has turned the program into not only a top Region III contender but a national contender. In his first five years at the helm at NCCC, Dumont turned a new program with just four wins into a nationally-ranked team in 2015 that finished with a record 25-3—the most wins in school history at that time.

Coach Dumont has made exceptional strides over the last three seasons, compiling at record of 80-12, winning back to back to back Regional Championships and Mountain Valley Conference titles. In 2019, Dumont led the Saints to the school’s first ever NJCAA Region III Basketball title as well as placing third at the National Tournament. The 2019 campaign for the Saints broke the all-time school record for wins with 28 in a season.  Then in 2020 Dumont led his program into receiving the first ever #1 seed in the regional tournament which allowed the Saints to host their first ever regional championship tournament here at North Country.  In this tournament the Saints went on to win the Championship on their home floor making a historical mark on the program. The Saints moved on to the NJCAA 2020 National Tournament before it was abruptly discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Perhaps most importantly, under Coach Dumont’ leadership, our women’s basketball teams have also done very well in the classroom, compiling an overall GPA above a 3.0 in each season and have included SUNY Chancellor’s Awardees for Academic Excellence and NJCAA Academic All-Americans.

For his tireless efforts, Coach Dumont has been recognized by his peers as the Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the year six times and NJCAA Region III Coach of the year honors five times (2011, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020).  In 2019 & 2020 Coach Dumont was also named National NJCAA District A Coach of the year.

A former two-sport athlete for the Saints, Dumont helped to lead the Men’s Soccer and Basketball programs to much success, receiving 2005 NCCC Athlete of the year award.  After graduating from NCCC in 2005, Dumont was recruited by the State University of New York at Plattsburgh to play basketball under Head Coach Tom Curle.  As a two year starter for the Cardinals, Dumont’s leadership and hard work helped him to lead his team to two SUNYAC Championships and two national berths in both seasons he was at Plattsburgh.

In addition to holding an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts (NCCC ’05),  Jerrad earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Plattsburgh and in 2013 he completed his Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Columbia Southern University in Alabama.

Coach Dumont resides in Saranac Lake, NY with his wife, Tiarra, his sons, Kameron & Grey, and daughter Melia.
