Utah State University Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hartwell announced today (March 11) that head men’s basketball coach Tim Duryea has been relieved of his duties after three seasons.

Duryea, who was the program’s 18th head coach and took over prior to the 2015-16 season, guided the Aggies to an overall record of 47-49, which included a 22-32 mark in the Mountain West.

This past season, Utah State posted a 17-17 record and finished tied for seventh-place in the Mountain West with an 8-10 ledger. USU then advanced to the semifinals of the MW Tournament for the first time in its five years in the league with wins against 10th-seeded Colorado State and second-seeded Boise State, before losing to third-seeded New Mexico.

“We appreciate everything that Tim and his staff have contributed to Utah State the past three seasons, both on and off the court,” said Hartwell. “However, we feel it is in the best interest of the program to make a change.”

Prior to being named the head coach at Utah State, Duryea was the longest tenured assistant basketball coach in school history as he spent 14 seasons on the Aggie bench.

A national search for Utah State’s next head men’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
