Eastern New Mexico Men’s Basketball Adds Morris to Coaching Staff

Eastern New Mexico head men’s basketball coach Brent Owen is pleased to announce the addition of Anthony “Tony” Morris to his staff.

Morris will assume duties as an assistant coach immediately and joins the Greyhounds following a stint as a Graduate Assistant coach at the University of Washington. Owen will add Morris as his second assistant to a staff already comprised of Daven Vo.

“We are excited to welcome Tony, his wife Kaitlyn and his two daughters Ashton and Halle to Eastern New Mexico.” Coach Owen said, “Tony brings basketball experience from the Division I, Division II, NAIA and Junior College levels with him to Portales. He comes highly recommended from some very well-known coaches in the industry and has a reputation for being a guy who works hard and is willing to do anything to help a program succeed. He has a very kind and relatable personality that will be a great asset in our locker room and on the recruiting trail. This is a great addition to our program!”

Morris gained valuable experience at the Division I level last season with the Huskies, primarily working with the post players at the University of Washington while also assisting with scouting efforts and game preparation for the program. The Huskies went 15-17 last season, including a 10-7 mark at home.

Morris made his way up to the Pacific Northwest after serving as an Assistant Coach at Central Baptist College in Conway, Ark. during the 2018-19 season. He helped lead Central Baptist to the program’s first ever AMC Tournament Championship and second ever NAIA National Tournament appearance.

He along with the coaching staff for the Mustangs pushed the program to it’s best start in school history, beginning the 2018-19 campaign with a record of 9-0 and a no. 18 ranking in the national polls. He also served as the Head Coach of the JV program at Central Baptist College during that season as well, overseeing all aspects of the team.

Morris was a member of the 2014-15 Dixie State men’s basketball team as a student-athlete that went 20-8 and won the Pac West Regular Season Championship. He was named to the All-Pac West Academic Team for that season and appeared in 25 games for the Trailblazers.

Prior to Dixie State, Morris competed on the men’s basketball team at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah as well.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Washington University and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration from Dixie State. He and his wife Kaitlan along with their two daughters Ashton and Hallie currently reside in Portales, N.M.
