Shelton State Community College Athletics announced the return of Joe Eatmon as the men’s head basketball coach.
Eatmon returns after a three-year hiatus during which he served as the College’s Dean of Community Relations.
Eatmon stepped away from the court with an 182-39 (.821) career record, going 83-14 in Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) play. He was named ACCC Coach of the Year five times and led the Bucs to five conference championships in six seasons, including four in a row from 2019-2022.
Eatmon took the Bucs to six NJCAA National Tournaments, including back-to-back Sweet 16 tournaments in 2021 and 2022. He says he is ready to get back on the court and back to his basketball roots.
“I am excited to again take the reins as coach,” said Eatmon. “Coaching has and always will be my passion. It’s far more than winning to me; it’s about seeing our students succeed, on and off the court.”
Under Eatmon’s guidance, the Bucs reached their highest national ranking in school history (4th) while also posting a 100 percent graduation rate over his last three seasons.
Athletic Director Cara Crosslin has no doubt Coach Eatmon will return the Bucs to national prominence.
“Joe is a relentless competitor and a proven winner,” said Crosslin. “It is not very often you can bring coaches back that have had his type of success at our level, so we could not be more excited to get Joe back on the court.”
