The Edward Waters University Men’s Basketball program is gearing up for the upcoming season with key changes to its coaching staff, combining fresh energy with a deep commitment to player development and program growth.
Head Coach Cabral Huff has officially promoted Larry Auguste from Graduate Assistant to Full-Time Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach following a standout 2024–2025 season on the sidelines. In addition, the Tigers have welcomed back a familiar face to the program, hiring Alexander Wright, Jr. as Volunteer Assistant Coach and Head Developmental Team Coach.
Auguste’s promotion is a testament to his relentless work ethic, high-energy coaching style, and proven success in player development. Since joining EWU as a graduate assistant, Auguste has been instrumental in advancing the Tigers’ recruiting reach, player performance, and overall program culture.
Before EWU, Auguste built an impressive résumé across multiple levels of basketball. He served as Regional Athletic Recruiter and Scout for Bryant & Stratton College (OH) and held assistant coaching roles at Westside High School, Baldwin High School, and his alma mater, Coconut Creek High School. His coaching stops have included mentoring future NCAA Division I and professional athletes, as well as leading Baldwin High School to the second-most wins in program history in 2017.
A U.S. Army Unit Master Fitness Trainer and Food Inspector, Auguste had also been selected to coach of the prestigious All-Army Women’s Basketball Team. His academic background includes degrees from Valencia College, the University of North Florida, and American Military University, and he is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership.
A former Edward Waters standout and retired professional basketball player, Wright returns to the program with a wealth of global experience and a passion for shaping future generations of players. Known for his electrifying style of play during his college days, Wright went on to enjoy an 11-year professional career that included stops in Germany, Luxembourg, France, the ABA, and stints with the Harlem Ambassadors and Harlem Globetrotters.
Since retiring, Wright has made his mark as a coach, mentor, and nationally recognized motivational speaker. His coaching journey has taken him from Chatham County Schools in North Carolina to IMG Academy in Florida, where he spent six years developing elite athletes. As founder of POPS Motivational—Positive, Optimistic, Player, Success—he has delivered impactful school assemblies and leadership programs nationwide.
Wright holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Edward Waters University, is NASM Certified as a Personal Trainer, and maintains a USA Basketball Gold Coach License. In his new role, he will lead EWU’s developmental team while assisting with the varsity program.
Coach Huff expressed excitement about the moves, saying:
“Larry has been a huge part of our growth this past year, and his promotion is well-earned. Adding Alexander brings another layer of expertise, energy, and connection to our program’s proud tradition. Together, they’re going to help take our men’s basketball program to new heights.”
With Auguste stepping into a full-time role and Wright joining the staff, the Tigers are poised for a strong season—built on a foundation of experience, passion, and dedication to excellence both on and off the court.
