Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Sean Smith, has named the first additional member of his coaching staff. Edwind McGhee joins the Vikings as Associate Head Coach
“Edwind McGhee is an absolute winner, an amazing man, and we are blessed to have him in our program,” said Coach Smith. “His impact will be felt in every area of our program including recruiting, scouting, player development, campus relations, academics, and mentorship.”
McGhee joins North Park after coaching for four years at NAIA Lincoln College, spending this past season as the team’s head coach. In his season at the helm, McGhee guided Lincoln to a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) tournament runner up finish and picked up a pair of wins against nationally ranked opponents. Additionally, he was directly responsible for recruiting a duo of all-conference players.
McGhee is also well-versed in the AAU circuit, spending time as head coach of the Florida Suns (Sarasota, FL) and associate head coach of Victory Rock Prep Basketball (Bradenton, FL).
McGhee graduated from DePaul University in 2016 and was a captain of the basketball team. He was a four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team recipient, earning a full-ride scholarship by his junior year. After his playing career, he immediately joined the Blue Demons as a graduate assistant coach.
“I’m extremely blessed and excited to be a part of the North Park family,” said Coach McGhee. “I want to thank Coach Sean Smith and Director of Athletics, John Born, for the opportunity to be part of a basketball program with such rich tradition. My wife and I are ecstatic to join the North Park community. I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity to work alongside Coach Smith to better our student athletes on the court, in the classroom and in the community.”
