EKU Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach Mike Allen Promoted to Recruiting Coordinator

Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball assistant coach Mike Allen has been promoted to recruiting coordinator, head coach A.W. Hamilton announced on Thursday.

“Mike is one of the best coaches I’ve ever been around,” Hamilton said. “His ability to recruit, coach, build relationships, and develop young men is a gift not many have. He’s been a key component in us turning around our program at EKU.”

Allen just wrapped up his third season on staff at Eastern Kentucky. Over those three seasons, he has helped build EKU into one of the top mid-major programs in the country.

The Colonels went 22-7 this past season, were ranked as high as No. 12 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top-25, and reached the Ohio Valley Conference semifinals for the second straight year.

Over the past two seasons, the Detroit native has helped lead Eastern to a 27-11 record in regular season OVC games.

The Colonels have shattered 18 school records since Allen arrived in Richmond.

Allen has been especially pivotal in the progress of EKU’s post players, helping develop first team All-OVC forwards such as Nick Mayo and Tre King.
