Ethan Engeman joins the Whitman men’s basketball staff as assistant coach, announced by Blues head coach John Lamanna.
“I am excited to welcome Ethan to Whitman College,” said Lamanna, who enters his first season as Whitman’s head coach. “Ethan’s experience and shared vision aligned specifically with Whitman’s mission and the men’s basketball program’s vision. I look forward to seeing the impact Ethan will have on our student-athletes and their overall experience.”
“I want to thank athletic director Kim Chandler, head coach John Lamanna, and the interview committee for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of Whitman College’s rich academic and athletic traditions. I believe in coach Lamanna’s vision for the program, and am excited to recruit, coach, and mentor student-athletes at a high academic institution. I look forward to working alongside John with the goals to motivate, encourage, and challenge the guys to be the best student-athletes they can be.”
Engeman, a 2018 graduate of the University of Missouri, joins the Blues after spending the past two years at Stevenson University, another Division III institution, located in Owings Mills, Maryland. While there, Engeman served as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball program. During his two years, Ethan assisted with all facets of practice, games, player development, and recruiting efforts.
In his first year, Stevenson achieved a MAC-Commonwealth Conference Tournament, and ECAC postseason tournament bids. During that 2018-19 season, Engeman assisted with the development of a First and Second Team All MAC-Commonwealth student-athletes.
Engeman was also selected as an assistant coach at the 2019 NABC Division I – Final Four Reese’s College All-Star Game. He assisted with the execution of all of the West All-Stars team practices. He supported Jason Terry as an assistant coach during the game.
Prior to his experience at Stevenson University, Engeman spent the summer of 2018 as an Elite Intern with The Hoop Group. The Hoop Group is a comprehensive basketball company that provides the best instruction, competition and exposure to high school student-athletes. Engeman worked closely with camp directors to identify, evaluate and recruit the top talent to the organization’s Elite Camps. He remained active with Hoop Group’s camp scene by coaching and recruiting at various camps, clinics, and tournaments during his time at Stevenson. Engeman also coordinated Stevenson’s Men’s Basketball Elite Camps. He also served as a camp coach at Mount Saint Mary’s University Men’s Basketball Prospect Camp.
