Pacific Union College has hired Michael Escobedo to coach the men & women’s basketball teams.
Coach Escobedo is originally from Grover, California and started his basketball career out of high school where he earned a full scholarship to NAIA D1 Powerhouse Mid America Nazarene University in Kansas. There he was a redshirt under NAIA Hall of Fame Coach Rocky Lamar. He then transferred to the California Junior College level. He played 2 years at Mendocino College for Coach Billy Offill and was a starter both years as well as team captain his Sophomore year. He then earned a scholarship to play basketball and run track at Multnomah University. While at MU he traveled to Taipei and Taichung, Taiwan with his team in the summer of 2017. They had the opportunity to do a mission trip and play other college teams in Taiwan.
Escobedo has coached both domestically and internationally for over a decade. He has helped in the leading of youth camps and clinics with the 1 Dream Foundation and 5-time NBA Champion, Horace Grant. He has Coached and served as the Director of Basketball Operations at WSE American Basketball Training Center in Foshan, Guangdong, China. While in China, he fortunate to be able to play competitively for Chinese Companies. Along with China, Michael has also coached and trained players in California, Oregon, Kansas, Hungary, and Ireland.
Michael is the founder and Director of ESCO Sports International Inc. and has taken approximately 100 high school and college athletes overseas to play. His most recent work has been for Mendocino College the last 3 years where he was the lead assistant for the Men’s program under Coach Billy Offill, as well as one year as the assistant coach for the Women’s team. There he recruited the 3rd D1 player in history for the men’s basketball program, as well as the first international basketball player in school history.
Although he is a coach, Michael also has a very important teammate in his life, his wife Katherine. Katherine is the head women’s coach at Mendocino College. Some of their favorite things to do include spending time in the outdoors, fishing, building, and hanging out with friends and family.
