University of Evansville men’s basketball coach Marty Simmons has announced the hiring of Geoff Alexander as an assistant coach to his staff. Alexander comes to the Aces after spending last season in the same capacity at Eastern Illinois University. Prior to his time with the Panthers, Alexander was an assistant for five seasons at Idaho State.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Western Illinois, from 2000-02. He then spent one season as an assistant coach at Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas where he helped the team post a 17-13 record and tie for second place in NJCAA Region 14.

From there, he moved on to coach for three seasons at Daytona State College in Florida. He helped the program post a three year record of 70-24 including a 25-5 record in 2006 when the team was ranked as high as No. 3 in the NJCAA poll. At DSC he helped the team win three consecutive Mid-Florida Conference Championships and saw eleven players go on to receive scholarships at NCAA Division I programs, including Solomon Jones, a second round pick in the NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks.
