Felician College graduates Jimmy Schmitt of Elmwood Park and Kashiff Foster of Somerset have been named assistant men’s basketball coaches at Felician, first-year Golden Falcon head coach Ivan Lewis announced.

“I thought it was important to establish a family atmosphere early on,” said Lewis, himself a 2004 Felician graduate. “With two guys like Coach Schmitt and Coach Foster who graduated from our program working in the business, it was a perfect fit to bring them back home to the family.”

Schmitt returns to Felician after two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Frostburg (Md.) State University. He began his collegiate playing career at Bergen Community College in Paramus, helping the Bulldogs to a pair of regional championships and leading NJCAA Division III in assists in 2009-10. He then spent his final two playing seasons with the Golden Falcons before serving as a student assistant coach for Felician for the 2012-13 season. Schmitt holds the single-season and career Golden Falcon records for assist-to-turnover ratio.

Schmitt owns an AA in liberal arts from Bergen (2010), a BS in mathematics education from Felician (2013) and an MS in education administration from Frostburg State (2015). As the Golden Falcons’ lead assistant, Schmitt’s main responsibilities will be recruiting and player development of the guards.

Foster is taking on his first collegiate coaching position. He will coordinate scouting of opponents and player development of the post players for the Golden Falcons. Foster spent one season as an assistant boys’ coach at Paramus High School and the last two as an assistant at Elmwood Park Memorial High.

Foster was a four-year frontcourt player for Felician from 2007-11. His 2009-10 squad went 24-7 and captured the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship. He ranks second on the Golden Falcons’ career games played list and seventh in rebounds. Foster completed a BA in social and behavioral sciences in 2012, and is pursuing an MS in special education from Saint Peter’s University.

Lewis also announced that Nick Abraham of Stony Point, N.Y. will serve as a coaching intern. Abraham is a counselor in Felician’s financial aid office. Furthermore, J.R. Pringley of Elizabeth will spend the season as an undergraduate assistant.
