Fernandes tabbed as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Bristol CC

Brian Fernandes has been named as the new head men’s basketball coach at Bristol Community College. Fernandes will take over for Rob Delaleu, who led the program since 2008.  Delaleu stepped down to accept a new full-time role at Bristol Community College. Coach Fernandes has spent the last five seasons as an assistant coach under Delaleu.

“I am excited to have Coach Fernandes leading our men’s basketball program.  He has the blueprint that has led to the success our men’s basketball program and his knowledge of the institution, Region XXI, and the NJCAA will be invaluable in his role as the head coach,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation, Derek Viveiros.

On Thursday afternoon, Fernandes stated, “I would like to thank The search committee for a smooth interview process, athletic director, Derek Viveiros, and the entire leadership at Bristol Community College for their confidence in me to lead the men’s basketball program.  I am excited for this opportunity to build on the tradition and success of the program by elevating our student-athletes on and off the court.

Coach Fernandes helped lead the Bayhawks to three conference championships, two Region XXI Runner up finishes, and men’s basketball’s first regular season first place finish during his time as the assistant men’s basketball coach.

Prior to coaching with the Bayhawks, Coach Fernandes attended Johnson & Wales University, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Sports and Event Management. While attending Johnson & Wales, Coach Fernandes was captain of the basketball team from 2004-2006 and scored over 1,000 points in his career including 140 3-point baskets (40% – Junior Season).  Fernandes also helped JWU win their first conference championship, as well as earn their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004.
