FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh announced on Wednesday the hiring of Joe Dooley, an assistant coach at the University of Kansas, as the third men’s basketball head coach in program history.
Possessing 25 years of coaching experience as an assistant coach and head coach, Dooley spent the last 10 seasons as an assistant at Kansas under head coach Bill Self. Over the last 10 seasons, Kansas produced 300 wins, nine straight Big 12 regular season titles, six Big 12 Tournament championships, six NCAA Sweet 16s, five NCAA Elite Eight appearances, two Final Fours, including the 2008 National Championship.
Dooley will be formally introduced on Monday at a 1:30 p.m. press conference held on the second floor of Alico Arena.
