Came across this blog this morning and found it pretty interesting:

Obviously George Washington fans are not happy about the state of the program. The Colonials are currently 7-14 (1-8 A-10) with their only A-10 win coming against Fordham (3-18, 1-8). Hobbs has had some good seasons at GW – 27-3 in 05-06 as well as 20+ win seasons in 04-05 and 06-07. Since 2006 however, his teams are 16-31 overall. Hobbs is under contract through 2012 and was paid $509,000 last season according to GW’s tax filings. In a January interview with the student newspaper "The Hatchet", Robert Chernak, senior vice president for Student and Academic Support Services, who oversees athletics, said:

"At the end of the day, a coach is being paid to win basketball games."

There are also some pretty interesting quotes from AD Jack Kvancz in the article (http://media.www.gwhatchet.com/media/storage/paper332/news/2…). Chernak and Kvancz are going to get together at the end of the season to discuss the state of the program and see what, if any, changes need to be made.

It seems like a messy situation in DC, and from my point of view it looks like a change is coming. Two questions remain:

1) Which A-10 coach goes first – Hobbs or Fordham’s Dereck Whittenburg?

2) Will the Washington area be looking for two coaches this spring with the situation at Maryland still unstable.

Feel free to weigh in with any thoughts.
