Fontbonne University has named Anthony Hall Sr. the school’s new head men’s basketball coach. Hall, currently the associate athletic director for the university, succeeds Steve Schafer, who stepped down as coach in March for a position with Benedictine College in Mesa, Ariz. Hall will become just the third head men’s basketball coach in Fontbonne’s history.
"Fontbonne athletics is excited to announce Anthony as our next men’s basketball coach. He brings a breadth of experience as a player and coach to a talented group of young men. We are excited for the future of Fontbonne basketball," said Maria Eftink, Fontbonne’s director of athletics.
Prior to his position at Fontbonne, Hall served as director of athletics and recreation at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo. He has had an extensive basketball coaching career that includes high school, junior college, NCAA Div. II and III, and NAIA experience. He was the head men’s basketball coach at Avila University and assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga., Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, St. Louis Community College-Forest Park and Webster University in St. Louis.
In addition to his responsibilities at Fontbonne, Hall has served as the head boys’ basketball coach at Lutheran North High School for the past two seasons.
Hall played basketball for Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where his team was inducted in the hall of fame in 2007 as the 1986 NCAA Division II Runner-Up, and Utica Junior College in Utica, Miss., where he was individually inducted into the hall of fame in 2005.
"I am extremely excited to be coaching this fine group of young men, and I am so very thankful to President Golden and Athletic Director Maria Eftink for trusting me in this head coaching position," said Hall, who earned a Bachelor of Science from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Arts from Central Michigan University.
Fontbonne is a Division III program in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and the university’s teams compete in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
