The College of Saint Rose has named Will Brown as the head coach of the women’s basketball program.
Brown comes to the College after previously serving as the Head Coach of the University at Albany men’s basketball program from 2001 to 2021, where he won over 300 games and led the Great Danes to five NCAA Men’s Division I tournament appearances.
“I am thrilled to announce an exceptional coach, mentor, and leader in Will Brown, as our new Head Coach for Saint Rose Women’s Basketball,” said Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, Lori Anctil. “Will knows first-hand how to win and develop student-athletes on and off the court. His proven record of success, ability to build impactful relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and colleagues, and his commendable work ethic will raise this program to a new level.”
The 2015 America East Conference Coach of the Year, Brown’s five America East Tournament Championships is tied with Jim Calhoun for the second-most in conference history. Brown also ranks second all-time in the America East record books with 20 postseason victories.
“I am honored and excited for the opportunity to lead the women’s basketball program at The College of Saint Rose. Saint Rose is where I got my start in coaching, it is where I met my wife, and it has provided some of the best memories in my coaching career. I am happy that our family will remain in the Capital District where we have established roots and developed so many life-long relationships,” said Brown.
“I would like to thank President Marcia White and Vice President and Director of Athletics Lori Anctil for their confidence in me to lead this program which is rich in history and tradition. The expectation will be to elevate the program to a level where we consistently compete for NE10 Championships and NCAA tournament appearances. I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes in the program and helping them grow and develop as people, students and athletes. A strong emphasis will be placed on community engagement as we strive to be champions in the classroom and on the court.”
Brown began his coaching career at Saint Rose as an assistant under Head Coach Brian Beaury and was a member of the Golden Knights staff during NCAA Men’s Division II postseason appearances to the Elite 8 in 1995-96 and Final Four in 1997-98. Brown was most recently the Head Coach and General Manager of the Albany Patroons, where he was named TBL Pro League National Coach of the Year.
The College will formally introduce Brown as head coach in a press conference on Friday, June 23 at 12:00 pm in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Coach Brown will be available for all media inquiries at the conclusion of the event.
