Former Blue Devil Robinson named Duke’s Director of Basketball Player Development

Duke men’s basketball head coach Jon Scheyer announced Wednesday the hiring of former Blue Devil captain, Justin Robinson, as the team’s director of player development.

Robinson, a four-year letterwinner and member of ACC Championship teams in 2017 and 2019, finished his five seasons at Duke as a team captain during his senior campaign in 2019-20.

“Justin Robinson embodies the values of our program as well as anyone,” said Scheyer. “His work ethic, knowledge of Duke Basketball culture, and professional experience will be invaluable to our current players. This is the perfect example of what The Brotherhood is all about. I’m excited to have him back at Duke.”

Robinson played in 55 career games, including a Senior Night victory over North Carolina on March 7, 2020. In that triumph, Robinson had a career high 13 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three assists.

“This is an incredible opportunity, to be a part of the team that Coach Scheyer is building and the program that I have such a deep connection to,” said Robinson. “My main goal is to help players grow – on and off the court.”

Robinson earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Duke in May 2019, and a master’s degree in management studies from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business in May 2020.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Robinson signed his first professional contract in September 2020 with KK Mornar Bar (Montenegro) of the Adriatic First League Division (ABA) and spent the past two seasons (2021-23) with Elitzur Maccabi Netanya of the Israeli National League, averaging 13.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per contest during the 2022-23 season.
