Former Western Kentucky, Jacksonville, and North Florida head coach Matt Kilcullen has been named as the Athletic Director at Mercy College (NY). He had been working on the administrative side of the house after getting out of coaching in 2009. Here’s the official release from Mercy:
Mercy College has hired Matt Kilcullen, Jr. as Director of Athletics, effective July 28, 2014.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Matt to Mercy College,” Dr. Bill Martinov, Chief Student Affairs Officer, said. “His extensive background in fundraising and collegiate athletics as a whole will be beneficial as Mercy moves forward in the East Coast Conference and Division II.”
Kilcullen brings 35 years of experience in fundraising and building successful collegiate athletics programs, most recently as the Assistant Vice President of Athletic Fundraising at the Florida Institute of Technology, where he raised over $1 million between the 2014 Sporting Affair Fund Raiser and football program Founders Club.
“My wife and I are tremendously excited to be joining the Mercy College Mavericks family,” Kilcullen said. “There is a terrific opportunity for growth in Mavericks Athletics and we are so thankful to everyone at Mercy who played a part in bringing us here. I cannot wait to get started developing the necessary resources for all our coaches and student-athletes to be successful both on and off the playing fields.”
Prior to his time at Florida Tech, Kilcullen spent two years as the Assistant Athletic Director at the University of North Florida, where he was also heavily involved in significant fundraising campaigns. In addition, he has an extensive background in men’s basketball, having coached at North Florida, Manhattan College, Western Kentucky University, the University of Notre Dame and Siena College, among others.
He completed his master of education degree in athletic administration at North Florida in December 2012 and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Herbert H. Lehman College in the Bronx, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. He is a member of both the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Kilcullen resides with his wife, Mary Jo.
