Todd Howard has been named head boys basketball coach at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. Howard started his coaching career more than twenty years ago, as an undergraduate assistant at the University of Louisville, and most recently served as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at IUPUI.
“We are very excited about this opportunity,” said Howard. “I have held Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in the highest regard during my 19-plus years here in Indianapolis. As a school, it continually attracts today’s best, while preparing tomorrow’s leaders. In 20 years of being on High School campuses from coast to coast, Brebeuf Jesuit has always stood out in the best possible way.”
Howard’s previous experience working with young men and women will also serve the Brebeuf community as he begins his job as the newly appointed Coordinator for the Ignatian Scholars Program.
“I look forward to working with Fr. Jack Dennis, S.J. [President], Mr. Greg VanSlambrook [Brebeuf Jesuit Principal], Brian Brase [Athletic Director], and the entire campus community both in coordinating the Ignatian Scholars Program and in serving as Head Basketball Coach,” said Howard. “This is a great privilege and a very special time.”
Principal Greg VanSlambrook states, “I was impressed by Todd’s personal approach to mentoring students, his record of leadership, and his experiences in the community. I think these will make him a great asset to our basketball program as well as to our Ignatian Scholars program, which develops talented Brebeuf students throughout their four years, using principles of Ignatian leadership.”
Howard has been actively involved in the community through numerous speaking engagements and volunteer activities, serving as an awareness speaker for Coaches vs. Cancer. He has also served as the Head Coach for Athletes in Action in 2008 in Beijing, China.
Howard holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University, Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
“I am thrilled to have a gentleman, educator and coach of Todd’s character and ability joining our Brebeuf Jesuit community,” said Brebeuf Jesuit president Father Jack Dennis, S.J.
