Former Manhattanville Basketball Coach Cleared by Westchester County Grand Jury

Jon Merceus, the former head basketball coach at Manhattanville University, has been officially cleared of all charges related to a previously reported allegation of an altercation with a student at the Shrub Oak International School in Yorktown. After careful consideration, a Westchester County grand jury determined that no charges were warranted and voted to dismiss the case.

“Coach Merceus is relieved and grateful that the grand jury conducted a comprehensive and fair evaluation,” said James Timko, counsel for Coach Merceus. “From the outset, he has maintained his innocence and cooperated fully with the process. This outcome affirms what we knew from the beginning: Coach Merceus is innocent.”

Coach Merceus, who has dedicated more than seven years to mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court, expressed appreciation for the support he received throughout the process from family, colleagues, and members of the community.

“I am thankful that the truth has come to light,” said Coach Merceus. “My focus has always been—and will continue to be—the well-being and development of my student athletes and young adults. I will continue, as I always have, to promote a safe environment to all students.” Coach Merceus looks forward to moving ahead and continuing his commitment to education, mentorship, and athletics.
