Former Viking standout Parker added to Cleveland State Basketball Staff

Head men’s basketball coach Daniyal Robinson announced today the addition of former Viking standout Deshon Parker to the 2024-25 coaching staff. Parker returns to Cleveland after playing his final two collegiate seasons in the green and white.

“I am fired up to welcome Deshon Parker back to Cleveland State, this time in a new capacity as Assistant Coach,” said Coach Robinson. “Deshon was a dedicated student, exceptional athlete, and a tremendous leader during his time here, and he’s continued to be a great ambassador for our University. Deshon will bring an infectious personality, commitment to our core values, and deep understanding of what it means to be part of this team. He’s a great communicator and connector, and for all those reasons, I’m excited to see the impact he’ll have on our players and the future of our program.”

Parker most recently played one season in Georgia for Sokhumi in the Georgian A League. He graduated from CSU in 2023 with a degree in communications after playing his final two seasons for the Vikings. Parker played in 66 total games with 64 starts over his CSU career averaging 7.2 points, 3.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. “He’s a winner in everything that he does. He’s the ultimate team player,” Coach Robinson exclaimed.

Parker increased his statistical totals in almost every category from his junior to senior year. His efforts, specifically on the defensive end of the floor, helped propel the Vikings to an appearance in the Horizon League Championship game. Parker was named to the league’s All-Defensive team following his senior season.

Prior to his arrival at Cleveland State, Parker played his first two seasons at James Madison University followed by one season at Appalachian State University. Parker was a key contributor to both schools. He became just the fifth freshman in JMU history to register 100 assists in his first season, while committing just 38 turnovers. He started 14 games in his lone season at Appalachian State, helping the Mountaineers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000.
