Former Warrior Michael Allen Joins the Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff

Head Coach Lance Von Vogt has announced a new addition to his coaching staff, welcoming back a familiar face to the Jessup community in Michael Allen. A former Warrior from the days of San Jose Christian College, Allen brings his detailed coaching resume to a winning program.

“(Allen) fits the mission and vision of our university,” stated Von Vogt. “As a graduate from Jessup and completing his Master’s degree, he already bleeds Warrior blue, so I am excited to see him use his basketball coaching expertise to help build our program and players.”

A standout on the court during his time with San Jose Chrisitan, Allen helped lead the Warriors to three NBCAA National Championships. Individually, Allen was named an All-American three times in a collegiate career that saw him score over 2,500 points and bring down over 700 rebounds.

“Coming home to Jessup means the world to me,” added Allen. “It’s a true blessing to have been given the opportunity to bring my experience as a player, trainer, and coach to an amazing group of young men.”

Coaching wise, Allen brings with him a resume of nearly 30 years at both the professional and amateur levels. Most recently, as the head women’s basketball coach at DeAnza College, Allen was named Coast Conference Coach of the Year while leading his squad to a conference title.

“This transition for me has been overwhelmingly exciting,” said Allen on the decision to continue his coaching career with Jessup Basketball. “The opportunity I have to serve with Lance Von Vogt and Bryce Jacobson is truly everything I feel that God planned for us to take this program and these young men to an elite level in their personal lives and on the court.”

Allen is currently continuing his education at Jessup as he is in the finishing stages of an M. A. in Sports Management. Already holding a B. S. in Bible & Theology / Youth Ministry, Allen was voted Student Body President as an undergraduate student.

“God always has a plan and bringing (Allen) back home to Jessup as an assistant basketball coach is something that will have a great impact on our student-athletes, program, and university,” Von Vogt would add on adding the leadership and tenure of someone like Allen.

Allen joins a staff led by Von Vogt who is entering his eighth year at the helm. The Warriors are coming off their fifth-consecutive national ranked season, and have received a bid to the NAIA Division I National Tournament twice since 2016.
