Ta-Rel Franklin returns to his alma mater, Alderson Broaddus University, for his first season as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.
Franklin returns to AB after serving as an assistant coach at Bluffton University in Bluffton, OH 2016-2018 and Hendrix College in Conway, AR 2018-2019.
While at Bluffton, Franklin recruited the team’s first-ever Heartland Conference Defensive Most Valuable Player, Dezmon Brown, who also earned Honorable Mention All-HCAC. Franklin also helped the Beavers return to their conference tournament after a three-year hiatus.
During his time at Bluffton and Hendrix, Franklin was in charge of recruiting duties, as well as providing in-depth scouting reports on upcoming opponents, breaking down video from practices and games, and monitoring academic success.
Franklin began as a student assistant coach before transitioning to the director of basketball operations at Alderson Broaddus University. Franklin’s duties at AB included: daily practice planning, working with guards in practice, developing travel plans for road games, game/practice film breakdown, as well as the day-to-day operations of the team. Franklin was also a member of the 2014-15 Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championship team at AB.
Franklin has also worked multiple summers as a youth coach for the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA, University of Kentucky John Calipari Summer Basketball Camp and Paul Biancardi Basketball Camps.
A native of Garfield Heights, Ohio, Franklin earned his B.S. in Business Marketing from Alderson Broaddus in 2016 and received his Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management from Bluffton in May 2018.
