Franklin Named Assistant Basketball Coach at Hendrix College

Ta-Rel Franklin has been added to the Hendrix College men’s basketball coaching staff, announced Director of Athletics Amy Weaver. Coach Franklin will serve as the assistant coach for the Warriors.

“I am incredibly excited for the addition of Coach Franklin to our Men’s Basketball staff,” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Thad McCracken. “He comes highly recommended by some of the best coaches in the game at our level and has a genuine excitement for recruiting. Our team was energized by his presence during his interview and I am confident that energy will only continue. It was clear that he and I share the same vision for not only the position but also for the future of our program and we are eager to get started.”

Before coming to Hendrix, Coach Franklin served as an assistant coach at Bluffton University for two seasons in Bluffton, Ohio. In his time there, he was in charge of recruiting duties, as well as providing in-depth scouting reports on upcoming opponents, breaking down video from practices and games and monitoring academic success regarding basketball players. Franklin also coached the 2017-18 Bluffton team to a return to the Heartland Conference Tounament.

Prior to Bluffton, Coach Franklin started out as a student assistant coach before transitioning to the director of basketball operations at Alderson Broaddus University (ABU) in Philippi, West Virginia. Coach Franklin’s duties at ABU included daily practice planning, working with guards in practice, developing travel plans for road games, game/practice film breakdown and day-to-day operations of the team.

Coach Franklin also worked multiple summers as a youth coach for the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA as well as the UK John Calipari Summer Basketball Camp.

A native of Garfield Heights, Ohio, Coach Franklin earned his B.S. in Business Marketing and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management.
